Macc back with bang after rest

- SHELDAN KEAY

MACCLESFIELD Town midfielder Danny Rowe believes his side will be back to their best in their next few games after benefitting from a weekend off.

The Silkmen weren’t in action this past Saturday, but were set to take on Dover as the Express went to print on Tuesday.

That fixture kicks off a busy run of matches for Macc, but Rowe is confident that the mini-break over the weekend will put his team in good stead for those games.

“The weekend off was great, especially for me as I’ve got a bit of a sore hip flexor at the minute so it was always going to be a tough one for me,” he told the club’s official website.

“I got through the last game and I feel alright now, so it was nice to have a rest for a couple of days and now we can get back into it.”

Macclesfield’s next match sees them travel to AFC Sudbury in the second round of the FA Trophy on Saturday. They reached this stage of the competition following a 2-1 win over Altrincham in their first round replay last week, with Rowe getting the winning goal.

He was delighted to contribute in the game, and admits it was a diffi- cult encounter despite their opponents being in the division below.

“These games are always hard. When you’re playing teams below you they’re always up for it and it’s always going to be a tough game but you’ve got to do it right,” he said.

“I don’t think we started off very well and all the boys shown a great attitude to come back in the second half.

“We were just holding on to the ball a bit too long, like the manager said we held on that extra touch sometimes and we’ve just got to move it quicker, do the basics and work hard, which I think we did well in the second half, that’s why we came out with the win, and obviously I got the goal so it was pretty good.”

Macc were originally trailing in the match against Altrincham, and Rowe was happy with how his team turned things around.

“It’s always nice to know you can come back from behind and stay on task in the game because there’s going to be times like that in the season where things don’t go your way, but if you can stay in like we did today you can get goals,” he said. “We’ve got goals in the team and we’ve got a lot of hard workers so if we just keep it up for the 90 minutes, we’re fitter than most teams so that’s why we can win late on.”
