Macc boosted by new facility

- CRICKET

MACCLESFIELD Cricket Club has started indoor winter nets in preparation for the 2017 summer at Tytherington High School.

With just over 12 weeks until the start of the cricket season, the club look forward to using their new Outdoor practice facility for a full season after it was finally finished in late July last year.

The fantastic three-lane net facility was made possible thanks to the generous backing of G.F Holding Ltd – Nationwide fit-out contractors to the Leisure and Banking Industries – whose Managing Director is Simon Holding who played for the club in the late 1990s.

Simon commented: “GF Holding are delighted to support Macclesfield Cricket Club, and the new net facility will not only enable players of all ages and abilities to practice and improve their skills but it will also hopefully benefit the club by increasing revenue in the clubhouse at the same time.

“I encourage all members to use the facility and for them and their family and friends to support the club as it continues to improve its facilities”.

It has taken many years of planning and the facility is truly first class with the pace and bounce of the artificial wickets offering ideal preparation for playing on grass pitches in the summer.

Chairman Simon Griffiths said: “A lot of hard work has gone in behind the scenes to achieve such a splendid outcome and mention must be made of Malcolm Ward and Barney Cutbill for pushing the project forward, the club Academy for their fund raising, individuals who made significant personal donations and the ECB and the Cheshire Cricket Development Officer for their advice and support.”

He continued: “How- ever, without the incredible generosity of former player Simon Holding none of this would have been possible so soon. Many thanks indeed to Simon and GF Holding Ltd.”

Junior nets started earlier in the month – visit Macclesfield.play-cricket. com and navigate to the Academy section for the list of time slots depending on age group. Senior nets started on Sunday 8th January and are held between 5-7pm also at Tytherington High School.
