Askey tells squad: Get on a run or fall short

- SHELDAN KEAY

JOHN Askey admits that his Macclesfield Town side will miss out on the play-offs if they don’t put a winning run together.

The Silkmen had won back to back league games heading into Saturday’s clash with relegation-threatened Guiseley, but suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home.

It left them six points off the play-off places with two games in hand ahead of their planned game at Eastleigh as the Express went to print on Tuesday.

Askey knows that the team can’t afford to make many more blips this season, and is urging the players to try and get some momentum under their belt.

“It’s all about getting on a run now and getting in that winning habit,” he told the club’s official website.

“We need to get a string of results together to get us in and around the play-offs. I’ve spoken to the players and it’s about being on a run now, and keeping that winning habit.

“If we don’t then we’ll fall short. Hopefully we can keep people fit, keep people at the club, and see what happens for the rest of the season.”

One player that has left Macc for the time being is Jack Sampson, who the striker making the loan switch to National League North side Chorley.

Sampson has made a total of 75 appearances for the Silkmen, scoring seven goals. He joins Chris Sutherland, Laurie Bell, John Sutherland and Sam Madeley as players that are currently on loan away from the Moss Rose.
