John, 71, can now display the “Best Of Houzz 2017” badge on his marketing and website.
He said: “It means a lot to win this award because it establishes us as a clear specialist in our field.”
John used to be the director of an advertising firm in Manchester but left in 2001 to follow his dream of running a photography business.
He said: “I’ve been dabbling with photography all my life and in my previous business would watch others take the photos. I decided to follow my passion and take the plunge.
“I take portraits and family groups and photographs events, as well as the architectural and interior work. But its the design branch that has really opened up for me.”
Working alongside his wife Anne, John travels from house to house taking photos.
John, who works from his home on Melrose Crescent, said: “We never really know if we are photographing the homes of the rich and famous, as we work for the developer or designers, but we have been in some stunning homes.
“It’s not all big spacious kitchens though. Some of our most challenging work is when we have to photograph a shower room. Trying to get a photo with all those reflective surfaces is very tough.”
Andrew Small, managing director of Houzz UK and Ireland, said: “We’re so pleased to award Best of Houzz 2017 to this incredible group of talented and customerfocused professionals, including John.
“It is more important than ever for home design and construction professionals to hire professional photographers to make their work stand out, and tell a story about the kind of work they do to our community of homeowners, design enthusiasts and home building, home improvement and design professionals.”
