Danny’s in to boost Silkmen push

- SHELDAN KEAY

DANNY Whitehead says he has returned to Macclesfield Town to help the club reach the National League play-offs this season.

Whitehead has joined the Silkmen on loan until the end of the season, after he originally departed Macc to join Wigan Athletic back in January 2016.

First-team chances have been limited for him at the DW Stadium, so he is glad to now be back at Macclesfield and hopes to play a key part for the rest of the campaign.

“I’m very happy. It’s important to get some games now because I’ve not played for a while. I’m happy to be back and hopefully looking to get the team into the play-offs,” he told the club’s official website.

“I’d been speaking to the gaffer previously and he told me ‘if ever you need to get some game time, and want to come back, you are more than welcome to’ which was good, so I was happy to come back.

“Last season started off started off well and obviously that’s when the move came about in January.

“I came back on loan and it went well again so I just wanted to come back here and continue to do well with the club.”

Despite leaving the Moss Rose, Whitehead has kept a constant eye on Macclesfield to see how they are performing in the league. After a good start to the season, a slight blip saw Macc fall off the pace, but they have now won three of their last four games to leave them in eighth place and put them back in contention.

With that in mind, Whitehead hopes that the good run continues over the coming weeks and months.

“At the start of the season Macc were flying again. There were just a few bad results here and there but at least we’re still within reach of the play-offs, and with games in hand it’s very easy to get back into there,” he said.

“This is a club that wants to go back into league football. It’s got great intentions, and it’s just about us turning in the results.”
