There’s a race for everyone in this year’s half marathon
THE Macclesfield Half Marathon is one of the biggest annual sporting events in Macclesfield and is back on Sunday 24 September. There’s a race for everyone – a Fun Run from age 3 upwards, the 5K along the first part of the Half Marathon route and the Half Marathon itself. Whatever your race, it’s certainly an achievement to be proud of!
As well as individual entrants to the Half Marathon or 5K, local businesses, clubs or groups of friends are invited to enter the Community Team Challenge.
It’s a great way to get your colleagues and friends moving while raising sponsorship money for your chosen charity. The Community Team Challenge prizes include the School Trophy, which last year went to Bollington Pre-School for the 5K and Fallibroome Academy for the Half Marathon.
Each year, Macclesfield Harriers Athletics Club donates all race profits to local charities. Our charity partners this year are East Cheshire Hospice, Rossendale Trust and Just Drop-In.
Rossendale’s Karl Downing commented “We are thrilled to be chosen as one of the beneficiaries. Money raised through the event will help us to grow and expand our WorkTaste programme, allowing the people we support to participate in work placements in the local community.”
Ann Wright of Just Drop In told us “The staff, volunteers and young people at Just Drop-In are delighted to have been selected as one of the beneficiaries. We are really looking forward to being actively involved in this fantastic community event and we will use money raised to fund our ‘Up and Running Initiative’ which seeks to support local young people to improve their wellbeing through physical activity.”
Lisa Ball, Community Fundraiser at East Cheshire Hospice, said “We are so grateful to Macclesfield Harriers for the money they raise for the Hospice. Not many people realise that less than 20% of our costs are paid for by the NHS. Without the generosity of our community we would simply not be able to offer our care and support to local people facing life-limiting illnesses.”
Our race sponsors are essential to the organisation of a successful race and to raise donations for our charity partners. We are proud to say that JJ Cookson will again be sponsoring the 5K.
