King’s bounce to new heights
KING’S School trampolinists have been hitting new heights both in team and individual competitions with a magnificent seven teams qualifying for the national championships with two high flyers in the individual categories.
Sophie Fletcher, 11, who is in Year 6 in the King’s Infant and Junior Division, was crowned North of Britain Champion with an outstanding performance in both routines.
Sophie said: “I train every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday with Rachel Burrows-Jarvis. She is really kind, encouraging and motivating. She believes in you if you are the best or if you have only just started. I compete individually and as part of a team. My team is really supportive. If you want to achieve a place in a competition, you have to keep working hard and always get on the trampoline when no one’s on it.
“When I’m older I want to become really good at trampolining. I look up to lots of champions and want to be like them. If I want to do that I’m going to have to keep training the way I am but even better.”
King’s coach Rachael Burrows Jarvis said: “Sophie is a determined, courageous, hard-working young athlete. She is exceptionally talented and has a strong work ethic to match. Sophie like the rest of the squad is an absolute joy to work with. All the trampolinists aspire to be the best they can and I am very proud of them all.”
