Surprise Silkmen switch for Evans

- SHELDAN KEAY

MACCLESFIELD Town defender Callum Evans admits that his move to the club came as a surprise but he is now delighted to be at the Moss Rose.

The right-back has impressed for the Silkmen since arriving on loan from Championship club Barnsley.

Evans is enjoying life with his new team, after revealing that things progressed extremely quickly when he first heard about the switch.

“It was all last minute but I’m delighted to be here and get started and hopefully my time here will go well,” he told the club’s official website.

“Barnsley pulled me aside before training on a Thursday and said that they would like me to go out on loan and get some games under my belt.

“By Friday before the Braintree game I had drove up here to get it all sorted and now I’m glad to be here.”

Evans is highly rated at his parent club Barnsley, and came through the youth ranks at Manchester United before going on to sign for the Tykes back in the summer of 2015.

He made an immediate impact when he joined Macclesfield last week, helping them pick up a clean sheet on his debut during the 2-0 victory over Braintree Town.

“It was a great three points, winning the game and not conceding is always a great feeling,” he said.

The 21-year-old was equally as impressive in his next game, helping the side earn another clean sheet during their hardfought 1-0 win at Eastleigh last Tuesday.
