Fab­u­lous five gain Oxbridge of­fers

A FAB­U­LOUS five King’s School stu­dents have re­ceived of­fers from Ox­ford and Cam­bridge uni­ver­si­ties.

Cricket cap­tain Oliver Quinn, 18, from Mac­cles­field, has an open of­fer from Ox­ford to read English, mean­ing the univer­sity will de­cide which col­lege he at­tends if he gets three A grades.

Oliver was highly com­mended in a na­tional Cam­bridge Univer­sity Span­ish es­say writ­ing com­pe­ti­tion last year.

Rower Fred­die Hay­ward, 18, from Mac­cles­field, may well be tak­ing part in the Ox­ford Cam­bridge boat race af­ter re­ceiv­ing an of­fer from St Peter’s Col­lege, Ox­ford to read pol­i­tics, phi­los­o­phy and eco­nom­ics.

Hockey player Eleanor Toms, 17, from Poyn­ton, has an of­fer to read nat­u­ral sciences at Fitzwilliam Col­lege, Cam­bridge and as­pir­ing politi­cian John Le Moignan, 19, from Whirley has an of­fer to read his­tory and pol­i­tics at Je­sus Col­lege, Ox­ford.

Freddy McNulty, 18, from Con­gle­ton has won an of­fer from St John’s Col­lege, Cam­bridge to read math­e­mat­ics.

Dr Julie Cocker, prin­ci­pal of King’s Sixth Form, said: “English, math­e­mat­ics, sci­ence, pol­i­tics and his­tory cour­ses are highly sought af­ter at Ox­ford and Cam­bridge not just by Bri­tish stu­dents but in­creas­ingly by stu­dents from all over the world, so th­ese young men and women are to be very much com­mended for their hard work and nat­u­ral abil­i­ties.”
