We’re opening our doors for Drop-In Day
THE East Cheshire Hospice Drop-In Day will be held from 10am to 2pm on Friday, March 24.
Doors of the hospice will be flung wide open for members of the public and healthcare professionals to learn more about the hospice services.
The drop-in day will feature information about the full range of services on offer at the hospice that support patients, families and carers.
“When people think of hospices they think of one thing – a place for those with life-limiting illnesses,” says Sunflower Centre sister, Helen Henshaw.
“But at the Sunflower Centre we think of ourselves as a well-being centre offering so much more – from standard medical services, such as physiotherapy, to less familiar programmes such as a carers support programme, and this open day is a way of more people finding out about what we do.”
The centre, which opened in May 2011, has its own separate entrance at the East Cheshire Hospice and is open five days a week offering a range of different types of services and support, all free of charge.
One of their most popular services is the Dementia Carer WellBeing programme, an eight-week course to help carers enhance and develop coping strategies, share experiences and gain peer support from others in similar circumstances.
In addition there is the Living Well programme, which runs weekly over a six month period, to support people diagnosed with a life limiting illness through their treatment, and provides ongoing support.
As well as providing specialist palliative care support to enable patients to remain in their own home, the centre also offers a bespoke breathlessness management programme which is run over an eight week period, three times a year to help people with their anxiety and relaxation techniques.
The Wellbeing centre also offers a range of outpatient services. These include complementary therapies, such as Indian head massage and Reiki plus physiotherapy and occupational therapy services, psychological support and lymphoedema management services.
And the centre also has practical sessions offering guidance on financial and legal situations for families.
