Scouts set up camp for hiking challenge

- RHIANNON MCDOWALL

AWEEKEND of sore feet but a major feeling of personal achievement was the outcome when more than 100 Scouts, Guides and Explorers took part in two days of hiking and camping.

The annual Macc Hike sees teams plotting a route over 16km from a set of grid references given to them, then hiking that route on their own and carrying all the kit and food they will require over two days.

This year the Scouts and Guides from Macclesfield and Congleton Scout District started at Sutton Scout HQ and the route took them south – picking up the Gritstone Trail towards Rushton Spencer and their overnight camp at Barnswood Scout Campsite, where they prepared their evening meal and relaxed around a large campfire, before setting off again first thing in the morning.

District Commissioner, Mark Eden, said: “I am pleased that so many young people have got out into our marvellous countryside, rising to challenge set by their leaders and overcoming the obstacles to achieve their personal goals”.
