In Shots clash
under the desperate Flinders.
The Silkmen looked to respond ten minutes later, as Askey’s side were awarded a dangerous free-kick 16 yards from the right of the goal following Browne being brought down.
But the theme of the home side wasting good opportunities continued as Luke Summerfield’s ball into the box was cleared comfortably by the Shots defence.
However, seven minutes from time Aldershot put the game to bed as Matt McClure grabbed his seventh of the season as the striker showed his striker’s instinct.
The forward was there to pounce after Flinders parried away Jake Gal- lagher’s shot and tucked the ball away convincingly, to seal all three points for the away side.
Despite some late chances for the Silkmen, it was too little too late. Askey’s side can take heart from the fact they still have games in hand on their rivals, and they will look to bounce back at the weekend against Boreham Wood.
