Numbers game among fund ideas to help SUSO
ACHARITY which supports adults with learning disabilities has been coming up with fundraising ideas to help it become more self sufficient.
SUSO – formerly Speaking Up Speaking Out – is a Macclesfield organisation that promotes friendship, wellbeing, skills and confidence among members with disabilities.
It also runs the Parachute Drop-In Centre on Old Park Lane, which is a place to meet friends and take part in workshops.
It is funded by a Big Lottery grant, but organisers are fundraising to ensure the club will be able to continue when the funding runs out.
So far this year, its members have raised more than £800, and organisers are hoping a new SUSO 100 Club will help add to the fundraising pot.
Karen Keen, fundraising manager at SUSO, said: “‘Our dropper-inners work really hard to fundraise for SUSO. It is hugely important for us, and means we will be able to continue to offer lots of opportunities to adults with learning disabilities, for friendship, developing skills and getting involved in all that goes on in the town.
“If you would like help to make a difference and support our dropperinners to support their wonderful and very important local organisation for adults with learning disabilities, it could not be easier. We have just launched a new fundraising initiative – SUSO’s 100 Club at just £1 per number. You can have as many or as few numbers as you like. Half the money raised each month goes into a prize fund and is divided into three prizes. The first prize this month was £47.10 and the more numbers there are, the bigger the prize fund.”
Fundraising so far this year has included a Valentine’s karaoke night and a stall at the Treacle Market and bucket rattling in the town, which raised a welcome but modest sum of £225.
Donna Gleeson, Clare Roberts, Stewart Vann, Sarah Buckley and Kathleen Clayton all joined in the Rotary Club’s annual Swimathon at Macclesfield Leisure Centre and swam 122 lengths in an hour and raising £142, which will be shared with the Rotary Club.
And last week Macclesfield Light Orchestra held an evening in a concert at the United Reformed Church, raising an amaz- ing £505 for SUSO.
Rosemary Jones, secretary of the Macc Light Orchestra, said: “The orchestra really enjoyed playing for such a receptive audience and we are most grateful for the lovely welcome and hospitality we received.”
Clare Roberts, project co-ordinator, said: “The Macc Light Orchestra were just brilliant!
“It was a great night and everybody had a great time singing along, and the money we raised is so important for SUSO – fantastic!”
