Solid start for Bosley as Irish impress

- TUG OF WAR

BOSLEY Tug of War Club hosted a successful tug of war competition at Glebe Farm in Astbury over the weekend.

A total of 18 clubs from around the country took part in the event, including a team from Wales and a team from Republic of Ireland taking part, with weight classes taking place for mens teams, ladies teams and junior teams.

The host club Bosley finished third in the 600kg weight classes with Two Dales from Derbyshire finishing in second place, and the “Shop” team from Ireland finishing in first place. The Irish team then went on to finish in first place in the 640kg and 720kg competitions. Lincoln Tug of War Club won the mens 680kg and catchweight competitions.

“It wasn’t a bad start to the season for us” commented Bosley spokesman Alan Knott.

“It was good to put in a solid performance at our home event, but obviously we would have liked to have won one. It was our first competition of the year, so hopefully our results from the day will spur us on as we prepare for the forthcoming national tug of war championships on 17 June, which this year takes place in Devon.”

Bosley will be hosting another Tug of War Association event at Glebe Farm Shop on Easter Sunday 16 April, which will be a fund raiser for the East Cheshire Hospice.

There will be weight classes for mens, ladies and junior teams. All supporters and spectators are welcome to come along and watch the event. Entry is free of charge for spectators.
