MACCLESFIELD TOWN LADIES FC

IT was a busy weekend for Macclesfield Town Ladies FC, with no fewer than four teams playing competitive matches – three U11s and U13s

Newest team MTLFC Treacles U11s’ first match saw them pitched up against Wilmslow Jaguars.

Both teams were quick out of the blocks playing good attacking football, but it was Macclesfield who seized the initiative with a cross from Ellie Chadwick to Bridget Schofield, who composed herself before taking on two players to score the opener.

Macclesfield’s midfield was dominant and a through ball from Bridget Schofield to Flo Cooke saw their lead double.

The second half saw a rare Wilmslow attack, but their efforts were thwarted by Charlie Knight who cleared the ball off the line.

Macclesfield’s reply came via a great run from Ellie Chadwick and with her right foot she opened up her body to smash a goal into the top right hand corner.

The second game was against Witton Albion.

Full of confidence from the previous victory, MTLFC tested Witton’s goalie and defence, Bridget Schofield opening up the scoring with a goal from just inside half way followed shortly after by another well taken goal.

Flo Cooke, not to be out done, teamed up with Darcy Russell for a nice one two, and then again found a gap between the keeper and front post.

Macclesfield were composed and playing excellent football, leading to Kate Gamwell finding the back of the net twice in a matter of minutes.

The second half continued much the same as the first half, with Flo Cooke getting her hat-trick along with Bridget Schofield, who also scored another.

Man of the match went to Bridget Schofield with Flo Cooke given overall player of match by sponsors Aquatech Window Cleaning Services.

Also in action this week MTLFC U11s who also played two matches against Frodsham and Hertford.

The first match a tight affair, but the deadlock broken when Macclesfield were awarded a penalty, Faye Hanaghan stepped up and gave the keeper no chance.

What was to follow was a ruthless attacking display by girl of the match Faye Hanaghan resulting in five goals, including goal of the season with a delightful chip over the keeper from outside the penalty area.

Sofia Whitehurst also weighed in with another goal to round off proceedings.

The second match against Hartford proved to be a much tighter affair, Hartford nearly taking the lead when a divot in the pitch caused the ball to bobble over the goalkeeper Holly Davies, but her quick reactions saved the day, recovering well to keep the ball out of the net.

MTLFC defence and midfield were solid, and snuffed out any of Hartford’s threat, but it was left to Sophia Whitehurst seal the victory with the only goal of the game.

The whole team was superb in this game, with girl of the match going to Ruby Watson for her tireless running and chasing down the Hartford’s defence.

The third U11 team also won both games convincingly.

The U13’s drew 3-3 against Vale Juniors.
