Mary in class of her own as Lady Captain

MARY O’Toole only became a full member at Alderley Edge Golf Club in 2012 after joining the club in an Introducto­ry Category

The former Learning Support Teacher, who found her work very rewarding, is delighted to be the Lady Captain for the coming year as she has found the club a great one in which to enjoy golf both competitiv­ely and socially and has made some lovely friends so that the club is a big part of her life now.

Mary current handicap 31, said: “I have only been able to play once a week at the moment but I hope to increase this to three times a week in the summer months.

“”My own personal golfing highlight came when I first joined the club and needed a card of 117 gross to enable me to play in competitio­ns. Val Hornsby (now Lady President) marked my card and oh did we jump for joy when I came in with 114.”

An EWGA Medal for Alderley Edge ladies was won by Tracey Smith with 68 seeing her eight shots clear of Celia Berent.

The Simister Cup final for Edge’s men was won by Simon Barber with 39 points closely followed by Trevor Rathbone and Jan Cichocki both 38.

The first Beswick qualifier for Davenport ladies featured a superb 45-pointer from Deborah Housley that left her eight points clear of Cheryl Howard.

The Thursday Stableford at Shrigley Hal was won by Janet Gates with 37 points taking her home from Al Lloyd 36.

The Captain’s Charity medal at Shrigley was won by Daniel Chesters with 68 from Brian Williams 70 and Ian Wadsworth and Mark Fielding, both 71.

The April medal at Mottram Hall needed a cpo on 70 to see Alasdair Breed to top spot from Graham Roche and Graham Hall.

Plenty of action at Styal with division one in a Saturday Stableford being won by junior star Jack Muir with a fine haul of 43 points taking him four clear of Richard Armstead.

Division two top gun was David Campbell with 37 points, two more than Tony Hunter.

A Sunday ‘Open to All’ Stableford was won by Hayden Cook with 42 points from Simon Tracey 40.

Styal juniors played two rounds for the Ralph Bullock Trophy and in round one Dylan Bennett set a scorching pace with 46 points from Jack Muir 40.

Round two honours was won by Daniel Beck with 44 points from Bronwyn Parker and Daniel Hayes, both 42.

Styal seniors showed their skills in a singles White Tee Stableford with Mike Burchell leading in with 38 points, two more than Martin Ogden 36.
