TUG OF WAR ALAN KNOTT

BOSLEY Tug of War Club hosted a charity tug of war event in aid of the East Cheshire Hospice on Easter Sunday.

Member teams of the Tug of War Association from around the country took part, including teams from as far afield as Somerset, Cumbria, County Durham and Yorkshire.

The event took place at Glebe Farm in Astbury, with teams flexing their muscles in different weight classes for mens teams, ladies teams and youth teams. The winning teams in different weight classes were the teams from Norton, Lincoln and Felton Eccles in the mens weight classes, and York to gold in the ladies and junior weight classes.

Bosley competed in the mens 600kg, 640kg and 680kg competitions, and missed out on spots in the finals of those weight classes, but later in the day, Bosley teamed up with the ladies from Leek to win the mixed 600kg weight category (four men and four ladies in each weight class), defeating Turf Turners from County Durham in a very exciting final.

The tug of war event raised £300 for the East Cheshire Hospice, which was a good result considering that the rain showers put off a number of spectators on the day.

Bosley spokesman Alan Knott thanked everyone who came along to support the event, with thanks being extended to Glebe Farm Shop in Astbury for providing the venue, and the Bollington Brewing Company for supplying the prizes for the event.

Bosley Tug of War Club will be running the charity tug of war competition in aid of the East Cheshire Hospice again next year, so anyone interested in forming a team to take part should keep their eye out for the date next year.

The next Tug of War Association event taking place in Cheshire will be the tug of war competition being held at the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair on Sunday 6th August.

Bosley Tug of War Club will next be in competition in the Tug of War Association National League this coming Sunday at an event being hosted by Lincoln Tug of War Club.

Bosley will be competing in further tug of war events around the country through to September, with the National Tug of War Championships taking place on Saturday 17 June in Devon, and the European Championships being hosted by England in Southport in September.

The club welcomes everyone to twiceweekly training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 8pm. Search for Bosley Tug of War Club on Facebook and Twitter or visit www. bosleytugofwar.co.uk to find out how you can get involved.
