Family in mercy dash Down Under for ‘attack’ victim

- STUART GREER

THE family of a man seriously injured in mysterious circumstances in Australia have made a mercy dash across the globe to bring him home to Macclesfield.

Kyle Ewart, 30, was found with serious head injuries in a front garden of a property in Adelaide on April 12.

The former Fallibroome Academy student was rushed to hospital and is being treated for a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain.

His mum Christine Ewart, 51, and sister Kendelle, 25, arrived on April 14 where they have spent the last week in a bedside vigil while battling for answers to find out what happened.

Detectives say Kyle was driven to the address and dumped, but his mum claims they are also investigating the possibility that Kyle jumped from a moving vehicle.

Police say two people have been questioned since the incident and released without charge.

It initially appeared Kyle, who was missing one of his shoes, had been assaulted.

Disturbing CCTV footage of Kyle staggering down the road less than an hour before he was dumped has been shown on Australian news channels.

Speaking from Adelaide, Christine, of Flying Fields Drive, Macclesfield, said she was in ‘a living nightmare’.

She said: “I am absolutely exhausted. Kyle was in a coma but is now conscious but very, very poorly.

“We are trying to be positive.

“He has amnesia and cannot concentrate for long.

“His recovery is going to take many months. I just want to get him home.

“We’ve also got the police investigation to deal with. We have been told that he jumped from a car but I don’t believe that. It looks like he’s been hit on the back of the head with something heavy. I don’t know how he got to be in that situation. I need answers.”

Kyle settled in Adelaide eight years ago while he was backpacking with friends. The unemployed cabinet-maker has two children with a former partner.

Christine, who works as a lifeline officer for Peaks and Plains Housing, said she was in daily contact with her son before she got the call about his injuries.

She said: “I was called by his ex-partner who knew very little.

I finally got through to a doctor at the hospital.

“He said he was in a lifethreatening situation and suggested I got here as fast as I could.

That broke my heart. I was distraught and spent the whole flight crying.”

Back in Macclesfield his family, which also includes brothers Joshua, 27, and Warren, 33, are promoting an online fundraising page to help Kyle in his recovery and get him home.
