Crucial we head into final on high: Halls

- SHELDAN KEAY

MACCLESFIELD Town captain Andy Halls has warned his side that it is vital they do not to head into the FA Trophy final in poor form.

The Silkmen have a trip to Wembley to contend with next month when they take on York City on May 21.

John Askey’s side booked their place in the final after a semi-final triumph against Tranmere Rovers.

It hasn’t been a great last couple of weeks for Macc though, as ahead of their planned trip to Dover as the Express went to print on Tuesday, they had lost their last three league games, including a 2-1 defeat at newly crowned league champions Lincoln City on Saturday.

With that in mind, Halls is keen to ensure they end the league campaign with a win when they host Sutton United on Saturday.

“I don’t want us to whimper out at the end of this season and finish on a low when we’ve got the FA Trophy,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s hard to get over that and we don’t want a grey cloud looming over our head when we’ve got a final to play, so we want to go into the last stage of the season as positive as possible.”

Halls has been a key part of the Macclesfield team this season, making 38 appearances in all competitions.

He has also found the net on one occasion during that time, scoring one of the goals during Macclesfield’s hardfought 3-2 victory at Chester last month.
