New civic lead­ers take on roles

THE new may­ors of Mac­cles­field and Cheshire East have been elected for the year.

Bev­er­ley Doo­ley, who has been elected as the new Mayor of Mac­cles­field, is a coun­cil­lor rep­re­sent­ing cen­tral ward for Mac­cles­field Town Coun­cil. She is also a Con­ser­va­tive coun­cil­lor for Cheshire East and runs a busi­ness on Park Lane.

He con­sort will be her son Se­bas­tian.

Coun Bev­er­ley Doo­ley said: “I am very grate­ful for this op­por­tu­nity to serve as Mayor of Mac­cles­field and look for­ward to work­ing with the com­mu­nity this coming year.

“I would also like to thank Coun Alift Hare­wood for her year as mayor and all the hard work she and Peter, her con­sort, put in to role.”

The deputy mayor has been named as Coun­cil­lor Adam Schofield, whose con­sort is his wife Heather.

Mean­while Coun­cil­lor Arthur Mo­ran has been elected the new mayor of Cheshire East.

A re­tired mag­is­trate, Coun Mo­ran, who rep­re­sents Nantwich North and West, takes over the chain of of­fice from out­go­ing mayor Olivia Hunter.

Coun­cil­lor Les­ley Smetham (Gawsworth), will take on the role of deputy mayor.
