New civic leaders take on roles
THE new mayors of Macclesfield and Cheshire East have been elected for the year.
Beverley Dooley, who has been elected as the new Mayor of Macclesfield, is a councillor representing central ward for Macclesfield Town Council. She is also a Conservative councillor for Cheshire East and runs a business on Park Lane.
He consort will be her son Sebastian.
Coun Beverley Dooley said: “I am very grateful for this opportunity to serve as Mayor of Macclesfield and look forward to working with the community this coming year.
“I would also like to thank Coun Alift Harewood for her year as mayor and all the hard work she and Peter, her consort, put in to role.”
The deputy mayor has been named as Councillor Adam Schofield, whose consort is his wife Heather.
Meanwhile Councillor Arthur Moran has been elected the new mayor of Cheshire East.
A retired magistrate, Coun Moran, who represents Nantwich North and West, takes over the chain of office from outgoing mayor Olivia Hunter.
Councillor Lesley Smetham (Gawsworth), will take on the role of deputy mayor.
