Thousands to hit streets for big race’s milestone

-

ON Sunday 28 May, around 30,000 people will take on the Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run half marathon, 10k and Junior running events – which will now all take place on the same day.

You can feel the adrenaline in the air as you stand on the start line with thousands of people around you.

A buzzing atmosphere, coupled with Manchester anthems blasting from the speakers along Portland Street, is something you should experience at least once in your lifetime.

The event is entertaining from start to finish, with bands on the run playing everything from The Beatles to Rihanna to jazz and drums.

Be prepared for them to give you a shout out as you run past and they might even run alongside you.

DJ and Inspiral Carpets legend Clint Boon cites the Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run as being his favourite gig.

He’ll be hosting the Boon Army stage near the halfway point, playing Manchester anthems.

The half marathon has now sold out.

But anyone lucky enough to have a place will run along Mancunian Way.

For one day only this infamous motorway will be gridlocked with runners instead of cars.

Look out for Jeff Hordley, Cain Dingle in Emmerdale, DJing outside his beloved Etihad Stadium along the 13.1 miles route.

At the heart of the event are the runners, not just the Olympic and World champions leading the field, but the thousands of people running for causes that are close to their heart, raising millions of pounds for charities across the world.

The charity village will be open all day in Albert Square and there will be a total of five charities cheering you on along the route.

This year the Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run 10k is celebrating its 15th anniversary and you can take your place on the start line to battle for local bragging rights in our Race within a Race.

Runners living in the Macclesfield Express catchment area will have their results printed in the newspaper following the event, with a trophy for our first local male and female finisher.
