THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD Aaron Donnelly, of Macclesfield, attends Space4Autism, a voluntary-run charity set up to support families of children with autism.
Aaron is raising funds to buy new blinds for the club, needed for children with sensory issues, and to provide a day out for the families.
This is Aaron’s third year of fundraising for the charity. In his first year he raised £550 and last year collected £1,235, which went towards a new club pool table and a trip for 80 members to the zoo. His current amount stands at £425, with a target of £1,300 to reach.
Aaron is aiming to eat vegetables for two weeks – kindly donated by Thornton Square Co-op. His ‘Veg Challenge’ is particularly tough for him due to Aaron’s sensory issues with textures, tastes and colour as part of his condition. Name: Aaron Donnelly. I am 13 years old and I have autism and ADHD. I have two sisters and one younger brother. I go to Walton Hall Academy. What inspired you to become a fundraiser?: My club, Space4Autism, has helped me loads. I feel normal when go I there, I can be me. What do you enjoy most out of doing this?: It makes me feel happy that I’m doing something good to help others. What is your greatest achievement?: Winning the young achiever of the year award at the Cheshire’s Silk 106.9 local hero awards 2016. Any plans for the future?: I love gardening and making things out of wood, so like to keep doing that – also fundraise again. Ideally how would you spend every day?: Cutting lawns, I just love it. What was the best holiday you have been on?: I struggle at Christmas and can get very stressed, so we go away to Spain for Christmas. Where is your favourite place in Macclesfield?: I love going to garden centres and B&Q. If money were no object what would you do?: I would buy a farm and a tractor and have lots of animals, as I already have five rabbits, two guinea pigs, a hamster, fish, a cat and a dog. What one piece of advice would you give?: Eat your vegetables. Who would you like to invite for dinner?: My grandma.
