THE date has nearly arrived and here at Canalside radio we are getting excited about our trip to Wembley on Sunday, May 21, when Macclesfield Town FC take on York City in the final of the Buildbase FA Trophy.

It is 47 years since the Silkmen won the first ever final of the trophy and we hope that they can repeat that win this season.

Rob Heys, the general manager at the football club, told us everybody at Macclesfield Town is looking forward to the trip to Wembley and they hope to add to their two previous trophy wins.

Rob said: “It’s something we don’t do every day, so we’ve had a lot of good advice from people who’ve been there and done it. Football’s great for that – everybody comes together.”

Rob added that ticket sales surged from the start. He said: “We sold a few thousand straight away.

“We’ll probably sell another couple of thousand as the day approaches and hopefully we can take a good crowd of around 6,000 with us.”
