ARMY of strangers say farewell to war vet Harry. More than 300 people, including many veterans, attended the funeral of Harry Wheeler, who died aged 96 with no family (website and page 4). Michelle Longden: Loved looking after Harry at Ashfields. Such a lovely man and he will be missed. RIP Harry. Great turnout for his funeral. Lovely send off. Bev Bennett: Shame we can’t do this for all our residents who only have us left. I’ve attended 2 funerals in past year where there was 4 or 5 people because they’ve no-one left. Michelle Longden: I know, me too hun. Least they have us at the end hey xxx Liz Brooks: It was so fantastic seeing the level of support from young and old for someone most people didn’t even know but wanted to pay their respects to. I didn’t think I was going to find a parking space at one point there were that many cars there. Very moving indeed. Andrea Kirkpatrick: Goes too show what a lovely community we live in. There’s always so much horrible news around, but seeing this goes too show there’s more good than bad. RIP to a hero xx Mark Eeles: Fantastic send off, well done everyone. I had a doctors appointment this morning so couldn’t make it... glad the marines did him proud... Victoria Rowe: We lost my beautiful Grandfather recently aged 93. What a kind and fitting gesture to Harry. Mark Eeles: The video brings a lump to your throat. Mark Ridge: They’re not ‘strangers’. They are his brothers and sisters in arms. Sheila Smith: So wanted to attend but poorly so wasn’t able to. Nice to see the great send off he had xx Ian Thomas-Moore: This kind of thing restores my faith in humanity. Danny Millward: We attended with all from ROAR. Was lovely to see such a turn out. Ian Thomas-Moore: Nice one. Respect to the people that went. I wanted to go but I was on shift. Jan Yeomans: Was just about to write the same thing. It does restore my faith in humanity. Amanda Moore: Beautiful send off for a wonderful man. You were an absolute pleasure to look after Harry. We all love and miss you so much. Hayley Ash: What a well deserved send off, well done everyone, YOU made it special. Paula Johnson: Absolutely amazing, so moving it sent shivers through me and brought a tear to my eye. Sleep tight Harry x Jane Dyson: It was an extremely moving event. Fiona Walton: Restored faith. Made my day! Well done everyone x Colin Grant: Great stuff. Emma Hewitt: Fantastic, more than who will be at mine xx Melody Christiana: Outstanding. Lynn Leatherbarrow: Absolutely fantastic.
