ARMY of strangers say farewell to war vet Harry. More than 300 peo­ple, in­clud­ing many vet­er­ans, at­tended the fu­neral of Harry Wheeler, who died aged 96 with no fam­ily (web­site and page 4). Michelle Long­den: Loved look­ing af­ter Harry at Ash­fields. Such a lovely man and he will be missed. RIP Harry. Great turnout for his fu­neral. Lovely send off. Bev Ben­nett: Shame we can’t do this for all our res­i­dents who only have us left. I’ve at­tended 2 fu­ner­als in past year where there was 4 or 5 peo­ple be­cause they’ve no-one left. Michelle Long­den: I know, me too hun. Least they have us at the end hey xxx Liz Brooks: It was so fan­tas­tic see­ing the level of sup­port from young and old for some­one most peo­ple didn’t even know but wanted to pay their re­spects to. I didn’t think I was go­ing to find a park­ing space at one point there were that many cars there. Very mov­ing in­deed. An­drea Kirkpatrick: Goes too show what a lovely com­mu­nity we live in. I had a doc­tors ap­point­ment this morn­ing so couldn’t make it... glad the marines did him proud... Vic­to­ria Rowe: We lost my beau­ti­ful Grand­fa­ther re­cently aged 93. What a kind and fit­ting ges­ture to Harry. Mark Ee­les: The video brings a lump to your throat. Mark Ridge: They’re not ‘strangers’. They are his broth­ers and sis­ters in arms. Sheila Smith: So wanted to at­tend but poorly so wasn’t able to. Nice to see the great send off he had xx Ian Thomas-Moore: This kind of thing re­stores my faith in hu­man­ity. Danny Mill­ward: We at­tended with all from ROAR. Was lovely to see such a turn out. Ian Thomas-Moore: Nice one. Re­spect to the peo­ple that went. I wanted to go but I was on shift. Jan Yeo­mans: Was just about to write the same thing. It does re­store my faith in hu­man­ity. Amanda Moore: Beau­ti­ful send off for a won­der­ful man. You were an ab­so­lute plea­sure to look af­ter Harry. We all love and miss you so much. Hay­ley Ash: What a well de­served send off, well done ev­ery­one, YOU made it special.
