Soaper duper fun proves lather is best medicine

-

WORK yourself into a lather and enjoy some good clean fun at Bubble Rush 2017.

The event, now in its third year, is proving to be one of the most successful in the East Cheshire Hospice fundraising calendar, with hundreds taking part last year.

More of a fun run than a race, the 5k event will take place on Saturday, July 1 and it’s proving perfect for people of all ages, particularly groups of families.

One of last year’s ‘bubblers’, Rachel Pugh, took part with her daughters, Sophie, 12, and eight-year-old Elizabeth and she says she enjoys tackling the walls of coloured frothy suds that lie around the route. Rachel, a Global development manager at AstraZeneca, takes part in the event to remember a colleague who lost his battle with cancer some years ago.

“There are very few events that you can take part in as a family, but this is one of them,” says Rachel.

“It’s all very inclusive with no competition and no pressure on anyone to do anything other than have fun!”

Around the course there are four Bubble Stations, each with a large foam cannon pumping out coloured bubbles, ensuring lots of fun for all.

“Some people run, some walk and some just simply roll or play at the bubble stations.

“The children love it,” says Rachel, who this year will also be joined by her six-year-old son, Ben.

The Pughs make up one of the largest teams of around 20 people, joining members from six other families on the day.

The race was new to the UK when it was first introduced in 2015 at Oulton Park by the hospice working jointly with St Luke’s Hospice.

This year the venue has changed to Alderley Park, making it more convenient for “bubblers” from the Macclesfield area. Adult tickets are £25 with child tickets priced at only £10.

The event begins from 11.30am and there’ll be plenty of food and DJ entertainment before and after the run.

Jessica Ruth, events manager at East Cheshire Hospice, says: “We can’t believe how popular Bubble Rush has become in such a short space of time. Everyone always has so much fun and we hope the change of venue will bring out even more people this year. “

Tickets are available on the East Cheshire Hospice website www. eastcheshirehospice.org. uk/bubblerush2017.
