Choir at monastery to celebrate 60th season
THE St George’s Singers will celebrate the end of their 60th season with a special concert on Sunday, June 25.
The Poynton group, which will sing Verdi’s Messa da Gloria, will head to Gorton Monastery for the celebratory performance, with coaches running from Poynton.
Jean Egerton, from the choir, said: “St George’s Singers’ 60th anniversary season reaches its thrilling climax at Gorton Monastery on Sunday June 25 with a performance of one of the most dramatic and best loved of all choral works.
“Verdi insisted that the Requiem should be performed in a large space, preferably a church; the Monastery will be the ideal setting to hear and feel the power of this awe-inspiring work.”
The choir will be joined by The Sheffield Chorale, Stockport Symphony Orchestra and soloists Irina Iordachescu, Joyce Tindsley, Matthew Minter and Colin Campbell.
Tickets cost £18, concessions £16 and students £6. Group discounts can be arranged.
