Award honour for college graduates

TWO students have been given a special award for their hard work.

Shimeka Yi, 18, from Macclesfie­ld, and Will Wickes, 17, from Poynton, received their graduation certificat­e from Abbey College in Manchester before being handed an extra gong for their achievemen­ts.

Shimeka, of Kent Walk, was given a special award for attainment while Will, of Hazel Drive, was given the Gold Standard Award for showing the most developmen­t and talent.

He is currently studying for A-levels in mathematic­s, biology and chemistry, and has received offers to study medicine at Queen Mary University London or Newcastle University.

Shimeka is currently studying for A-levels in mathematic­s, further mathematic­s and physics, and has received an offer to study Civil Engineerin­g at the University of Sheffield.

Both were handed their awards by The Lord Mayor of Manchester during the ceremony.

Liz Elam, principal at Abbey College, said: “Will is an outstandin­g student who puts his best effort into everything he does.

“Shimeka is a very bright student who will excel at university.”
