Award honour for college graduates
TWO students have been given a special award for their hard work.
Shimeka Yi, 18, from Macclesfield, and Will Wickes, 17, from Poynton, received their graduation certificate from Abbey College in Manchester before being handed an extra gong for their achievements.
Shimeka, of Kent Walk, was given a special award for attainment while Will, of Hazel Drive, was given the Gold Standard Award for showing the most development and talent.
He is currently studying for A-levels in mathematics, biology and chemistry, and has received offers to study medicine at Queen Mary University London or Newcastle University.
Shimeka is currently studying for A-levels in mathematics, further mathematics and physics, and has received an offer to study Civil Engineering at the University of Sheffield.
Both were handed their awards by The Lord Mayor of Manchester during the ceremony.
Liz Elam, principal at Abbey College, said: “Will is an outstanding student who puts his best effort into everything he does.
“Shimeka is a very bright student who will excel at university.”
