Award hon­our for col­lege grad­u­ates

TWO stu­dents have been given a special award for their hard work.

Shimeka Yi, 18, from Mac­cles­field, and Will Wickes, 17, from Poyn­ton, re­ceived their grad­u­a­tion cer­tifi­cate from Abbey Col­lege in Manch­ester be­fore be­ing handed an ex­tra gong for their achieve­ments.

Shimeka, of Kent Walk, was given a special award for at­tain­ment while Will, of Hazel Drive, was given the Gold Stan­dard Award for show­ing the most de­vel­op­ment and tal­ent.

He is cur­rently study­ing for A-lev­els in math­e­mat­ics, bi­ol­ogy and chem­istry, and has re­ceived of­fers to study medicine at Queen Mary Univer­sity Lon­don or New­cas­tle Univer­sity.

Shimeka is cur­rently study­ing for A-lev­els in math­e­mat­ics, fur­ther math­e­mat­ics and physics, and has re­ceived an of­fer to study Civil Engi­neer­ing at the Univer­sity of Sheffield.

Both were handed their awards by The Lord Mayor of Manch­ester dur­ing the cer­e­mony.

Liz Elam, prin­ci­pal at Abbey Col­lege, said: “Will is an out­stand­ing stu­dent who puts his best ef­fort into ev­ery­thing he does.

“Shimeka is a very bright stu­dent who will ex­cel at univer­sity.”
