Cream teas help WI

-

HUNDREDS of cream teas were enjoyed by guests when a resident opened her home for an annual gathering.

Every year in May, Barbara Hines hosts her Strawberry Tea event at her home in the heart of Lower Withington.

And this year despite a forecast of heavy rain, Barbara again attracted a stream of visitors to her home for cream teas.

She and her helpers made around 300 cream teas during the day.

The event, now in its 21st year, was raising funds for the village WI to provide speakers for the coming year.

Mrs Hines, who was recovering from an operation, said: “The WI members have been stalwarts this year, taking over the running of the event for me.”

There was also a variety of stalls including a well stocked plant stall run by David Monks.

Ann Daughtrey, president of Lower Withington WI, said: “Every time I looked up there was another influx of people coming in through the garden gate. There were people everywhere and virtually every seat was taken with people enjoying the beautiful cream teas.”

The strawberry tea will return next year.
