Award win for teacher who shines in arts education

A TEACHER was hon­oured at the North West’s cul­tural education awards cer­e­mony.

Karen Fay from Fal­li­b­roome Academy was pre­sented with the Arts Coun­cil Eng­land award for in­no­va­tion and lead­er­ship in cul­tural education at the in­au­gu­ral North West Cul­tural Education Awards.

The awards recog­nise the peo­ple and or­gan­i­sa­tions who are work­ing to im­prove ac­cess to great art and cul­ture for chil­dren and young peo­ple. Awards were pre­sented across 16 cat­e­gories af­ter win­ners had been se­lected by an in­de­pen­dent panel of judges

The event high­lighted best prac­tice in the re­gion’s arts and education sec­tors.

Peter Ru­bery, ex­ec­u­tive prin­ci­pal at Fal­li­b­roome Academy, said: “We are hon­oured and de­lighted to re­ceive such as pres­ti­gious award which is true recog­ni­tion of the qual­ity of Mrs Fay’s lead­er­ship and the com­mit­ment of a tal­ented group of teach­ers in the Fal­li­b­roome Learn­ing Com­mu­nity and Trust. Many schools are re­spond­ing to the Govern­ment’s drive to nar­row the cur­ricu­lum by cut­ting arts pro­vi­sion but our be­lief in the in­trin­sic value of the arts and the op­por­tu­ni­ties such pro­vi­sion cre­ates for our stu­dents to de­velop key skills is re­flected in this unique award.”
