King’s Girls march on to re­gional ath­letic fi­nals

KING’S Girls’ Di­vi­sion ath­letes have qual­i­fied for the re­gional ath­let­ics fi­nals for the 20th suc­ces­sive year.

King’s fin­ished joint first with Sand­bach High School n the county round of the English School’s Ath­let­ics As­so­ci­a­tion Cup to qual­ify for the Re­gional Fi­nals in War­ring­ton on June 12.

The King’s team of 12 ath­letes from Years 7 and 8 com­peted in 24 events, each com­peti­tor per­form­ing in two events. The plac­ings were con­verted to points and added up to give a team score. Sev­eral of the King’s gained per­sonal bests and scored highly with cap­tain Iso­bel Moores and Clau­dia Ro­drigez Martinez the top scor­ers.

Iso­bel Moores said: “We are a team, no stars, no in­di­vid­u­als but a team who sup­port each other and en­joy work­ing hard to­gether.”

King’s Girls’ Di­vi­sion Phys­i­cal Education teacher Lisa Booker who coaches the team, said: “The girls have a win­ning com­bi­na­tion of tal­ent and de­ter­mi­na­tion and have worked hard to win.

“With ev­ery pass­ing year the girls be­come even more de­ter­mined to main­tain the school’s win­ning streak.”

King’s Girls Di­vi­sion Year 7 ath­let­ics team also won the Mac­cles­field and District Track and Field Mi­nors Championships with sev­eral girls se­lected to rep­re­sent Mac­cles­field at the County Track and Field Championships on June 21.
