Four-wicket Singh inspires home side’s first

- BILL LIVESLEY

PRESTBURY enjoyed victory against Heaton Mersey at the weekend, despite losing the toss and being asked to bat.

Openers Adam Philips and Robin Farmer set the tone for the Prestbury innings with shots all round the wicket and soon passed the 50-run partnership, reaching 94 before Philips was out for a fine 54.

Farmer soon reached his 50 and was joined by Tremayne Ryder.

They pair took the score to 135 when Farmer was out for a solid 60, bringing Guri Singh to the wicket.

Unfortunately, Ryder was run out for 17 but with a solid base of 136 for three off 34 overs, Prestbury were well set to get 200 plus.

Graham Fish, making first team debut, and Singh went about punishing the Heaton Mersey bowlers.

Singh reached his fourth 50 of the season, made off 27 balls, while Fish was unlucky to be out for 49 off 22 balls. The duo had put on 104 off just 46 balls. Tom Livesley came in for two balls but Prestbury declared at 242 for 4, Singh not out 55, leaving Heaton Mersey 48 overs to get 243.

After tea, with rain about during the Prestbury innings that might spoil the match, Singh had the ideal start, bowling Fair for 0.

There was then a wonderful direct hit from Aqeel Ahmed, seeing Chema run out and leaving Heaton Mersey on 25 for 2.

Ryder had Gandy lbw for 22, Singh got his second wicket bowling H Shah, then Cameron Kirkland was brought into the attack. He brought instant success, bowling Humpage for 23 to leave the score 79 for 5.

However, a partnership developed and it wasn’t until the 27th over that Prestbury got a wicket when Fish had A Shah lbw
