Cycle day to ease people into the saddle

-

FAMILIES are being encouraged to get on their bikes for a new cycling event this Saturday.

Cycle Saturday has been organised by Macclesfield Town Council and Macclesfield Wheelers as part of their mission to get more people out on their bikes.

Two guided bike rides – a 4.5 mile junior route and a 14 mile adult route – will set off from Market Place, where there will be a whole host of free family activities.

There will also be a ‘bike doctor’ on hand for advice, support and bike maintenance, and guests can join in with a static cycle challenge.

It’s been organised to launch a new set of cycling maps for the town and inspire riders to get on their bike.

Darren Allgood from Allgood Cycling, who manages cycle events across Europe, said: “We are very happy to be part of an event encouraging cycling in Macclesfield.

“It’s great to see such local enthusiasm for the sport.”

The Cycle Saturday event is on July 1, from 10am to 2pm in Market Place.

The adult ride sets off at 10am and junior ride at 10.15am.

Registration for the bike ride has now closed but visitors can still go along and enjoy the other activities on offer.

Parking at some of the town centre car parks is also free after 10am onwards.
