Double silver for talented photographer
APHOTOGRAPHER has won an industry award for his adorable picture of a puppy and sleek imagery of a car interior.
The pictures – which were polar opposites in terms of subject – earned James Russell, from Macclesfield, two Silver awards at this year’s North West British Institute of Professional Photography Awards.
James collected an award in the category for ‘Advertising on Location’ with his image of a Mercedes interior, and his image of a bulldog puppy earned him an award in the Pet category.
James said: “I was absolutely delighted to win not just one but two silvers.
“There was some really stunning work so I was very pleased indeed.”
He added: “Location work always brings its own set of technical challenges which I particularly enjoy. I had a good subject matter which always helps, but to make the most of the luxurious interior I needed to introduce some creative lighting to show off the finish and textures of the various materials which brought the image to life.”
James added that the photograph of the excitable bulldog puppy was a little tricker to achieve.
He said: “‘Never work with children or animals’ is often the advice given, so being commissioned to take pet portraits can be particularly tricky. The image was of a pedigree bulldog puppy which of course didn’t wish to sit still! Nevertheless, this wonderful animal gave the most perfect of looks for that split second.”
James runs a photography business specialising in commercial photography – including business portraits, product shots and architecture – and has recently celebrated 10 years in business.
