Personal trip advisor notches up 30 years in travel business
ATRAVEL agent is celebrating 30 years of helping Maxonians travel the globe.
Richard Slater, who runs Personal Travel Agents, provides tailored travel advice to families and individuals.
He has been travelling for the past 30 years in order to give the best advice to clients, and is one of just 20 UK Disney Specialist Agents after proving his commitment to travel and the business.
For the last five years, Richard has been a Personal Travel Agent, which is a team of independent travel specialists that are part of Midcounties Co-operative Travel.
He said: “In recent years there has been an increase in demand for independent travel agents who have the skills and knowledge to help customers find the perfect holiday, with holidaymakers really valuing someone planning their trip who knows all about the destination they are heading to.
“I would estimate I get at least 10 per cent of new enquiries just from walking the dog in the morning.
“I get chatting to people, explain what I do and they remember me and get in touch when they are next thinking of booking a holiday.
“I also have several customers I’ve known for decades. My first ever booking was a holiday to Ireland for a client who is still to this day booking with me.
“It’s lovely that they keep coming back – I think it’s because they enjoy booking with someone who really understands what they want to get out of their holiday and cares about them having the best experience possible.”
Richard decided he wanted to work in the travel industry at the age of 15 after he went on his first cruise with his family.
He added: “It was such a fantastic experience, especially at that age, and I was fascinated by the prospect of all the locations available to explore.
“It was then I decided that helping people enjoy the holiday of a lifetime was the career for me.
“Thirty years later, seeing people’s holiday pictures and getting thank you messages on social media is still my favourite part of the job.”
