Prestbury edged by Poynton

- BILL LIVESLEY

PRESTBURY played local rivals Poynton at the weekend with both teams wanting a win to keep up with Kingsley at the top to the table.

Sam Gilding, Prestbury captain, won the toss and batted. Adam Philips and Stu Costello opened the batting and in the sixth over Costello was bowled by J Williams for four.

Aqeel Ahmed came in to bat and he and Philips took the score to 41 before a harsh lbw saw Philips out for 19, again J Williams the bowler.

Guri Singh came in and soon it was 41 for 3 when Ahmed was well caught by Stringer off the bowling of Maltman for 16.

Disaster struck when Singh, who is having a good season with the bat, was caught by Hadley for 0, so 42 for 4, soon was 46 for 5 as Steve Oldfield was out caught off the bowling of D Williams for 0.

Andy Scott came if for his first team debut and was bowled by D Williams for 4, 55 for 6.

Wickets kept falling and Ben McKeever was out for 5, followed by Tom Livesley (1) both wickets to Maltman.

Stuart Burrell (1)was also soon out bowled by D Williams and that left Tremayne Ryder and Gilding to try to get as many runs as possible.

Gilding hit a six and got the score moving along to 83 when Ryder was bowled by Maltman for 1, leaving Gilding 19 not out.

Best bowling for Poynton was Maltman 12.1 overs, eight maidens, five for 12.

Poynton’s batting got off to a bad start when Singh had P Gould caught by Gilding for 0.

Ryder had S Dunn caught by Burnell, also 0, and it was 7-3 when Ryder had T Longhorn caught by Ahmed for 2.

The score moved on to 20 when Singh bowled D Williams for 14 and Singh had further success with the wicket of Stringer, lbw, for four.

At 35 for 5 it was game on so S Waller came in and at 13 showed how to bat on what others had found a tough wicket, making a very good 37 not out. He was supported by Hadley (13no) to see Poynton home by five wickets at 84 for 5. Best Prestbury bowling was Singh, eight overs, three maidens, three for 16.

Prestbury are still in fourth place and play Bunbury next week. It’s the sixes day 16th July, a great day out at Prestbury CC.
