Attward answers late call for Kidsgrove bout

- BOXING

AFTER taking a bout at 24 hours notice, MBBC coaches and young boxer Scott Attward made the short trip to Kidsgrove for a warm up ahead of his bout on the Beartown annual show.

His opponent was a very experienced, capable boxer, Tommy Ward from the Tom Lowe Club.

This was a very anticipated bout as there were a lot of home fans making themselves heard. The bell rang, they touched gloves and went to work – Ward strong, muscular and ready against the slick moving Attward.

Both lads threw some nice combinations but Attward was catching with shots that seemed to come from nowhere.

Ward was game but seemed to tire as the bell rang.

Round two and again Attward was throwing shots at will and catching every time. Ward was on the back foot on occasions which didn’t appear to be his style and he would push on every so often, showing heart.

But Attward was edging in front all the time before landing a preacher straight on the button and Ward received an eight count.

Round three and Ward was strong again from the bell but with Attward now having the measure of him he started to look comfortable and in control.

It got scrappy at times but it was Attward that was having the success and as the final whistle went they touched gloves in appreciation of an excellent display.

Attward was the winner on a unanimous decision.
