Doctor’s surgery launched with staff 10k challenge

- RHIANNON MCDOWALL

ATEAM of new colleagues prepared for the launch of their new business by taking on a 10k run together.

The staff from Pinches Medical Centre, a private GP surgery set to open at Charles Roe House on Friday, took on the challenge to complete the Alderley Edge Bypass 10k in aid of East Cheshire Hospice.

Staff member Debbie Lomas said it was a great opportunity to raise money for a Macclesfield charity and highlight what the new practice is all about.

She said: “It was a great day, wonderful support from the crowd and fellow runners and very well organised by Run Northwest.

“We entered as we want to promote health and wellbeing as we are keen to show how a holistic approach to health can work wonders.”

She added: “We think it’s important to do just as much work around keeping fit rather than people just coming to see us when they have a lump or a bump they need dealing with.”

Pinches Medical Centre, which opens on Churchill Way on July 14, will combine a private GP surgery, run by Dr Stephanie Pinches, an events centre and an arts cafe, with Stephanie’s husband Ian as the director.

Debbie added that the multi-purpose events centre – to be named the Copper Room – will be used to promote health and wellbeing, with yoga workshops, mindfullness workshops and events with dieticians.

The arts cafe will showcase work by local artists.

The team of runners was made up of Ian, Stephanie and office staff Suzanne Shaw, Debbie Lomas, Philippa Creighton and Jo Weselby, who took on the 10k challenge for the first time.

Debbie added: “So far we’ve raised £110 but would be very grateful for any more donations as it’s all going to East Cheshire Hospice and Ian and Steph have very kindly said they would double any money raised – a great opportunity to raise funds for a worthy, local cause.”

Pinches Medical Centre will officially open at 11am and there are currently offers for the first 100 customers through the door.

There will also be information on corporate memberships and early membership offers.
