PE teachers in the running for award after helping trainees
TWO TEACHERS have been nominated for awards for their work as mentors for trainees.
PE teachers Dave Fitzsimmons and Lucy Rimmer at Tytherington School have both been nominated for the Liverpool John Moores University ‘Subject Mentor of the Year’ award for their work supporting trainee teachers in the PE department this year.
They were nominated by the current PE trainees Antonio Spinola and Andy Henshall.
Headteacher Manny Botwe said: “The nomination recognises the hard work Mr Fitzsimmons and Mrs Rimmer have put into supporting trainees by helping to plan lessons, providing feedback from observations and giving much needed moral support.
“Mr Spinola and Mr Henshall, our PE trainees, have both been very complimentary about the quality of training and support they have received throughout the year.
“In his end of year evaluation, Mr Spinola thanked the department for their advice, guidance and timely and effective support, and praised the PE department’s friendly, welcoming and supportive atmosphere and highly knowledgeable mentors.
“Congratulations to Mr Fitzsimmons and Mrs Rimmer, who have given our trainees the best possible start to their careers. The awards ceremony takes place later this term. It’s great that they get the recognition they deserve.”
