Silkmen’s silky style of play convinced Durrell

-

ELLIOTT Durrell has revealed Macclesfield’s attractive style of play was one of the biggest reasons why he decided to join the club.

Durrell’s joined The Silkmen was confirmed on Friday after he left National League rivals, Chester.

He was an ever present in The Blues lineup last season with 46 appearances, scoring eight goals in the process.

The new signing went on to praise the set-up at Macclesfield Town on arrival and said that, in his own experience, there were no better footballing sides in the league.

“I’ve played against Macclesfield a few times already in my career and they really do play football the right way,” said Durrell.

“That will suit me down to the ground. Everything about the place is professional.

“I remember playing here last year and obviously the return leg at Chester – and I don’t remember anybody else, footballing wise, that was a better team.

“It should be played on the ground.

“Obviously, there’s a time and place to go long, of course, but the manager is encouraging as little long stuff as possible in training.”

Durrell will join up with fellow new signing and former Chester teammate Ryan Lloyd this season and he believes that Lloyd’s signing highlights the style that manager John Askey is trying to encourage ahead of the new season.

“I obviously know Lloydy from my time at Chester and signing him, and the other new signings, says a lot about the approach they’re trying to take here.

“Hopefully we can gel the team nice and quick and we can hit the ground running.”
