Goal capped dream debut for Noe

-

NOE Baba says it was a debut to remember after scoring the only goal in Macclesfield Town’s 1-0 victory over Wrexham on Saturday.

The youngster netted in the first half of the match to help the Silkmen pick up all three points away from home.

Baba celebrated his 21st birthday on Tuesday, and he was glad it was a memorable week for him.

“Tyrone (Marsh) did well on the right side of the pitch and I got the ball and it just happened to bounce up for me, so I thought why not have a go?” he told the club’s official website.

“I just saw it bounce in front of the keeper and then it was in the back of the net, it was one of those joyful moments to get a goal on my debut.

“I thought it was good for us to get a win out here, it was very important. The manager said to us come out here and try to grab a win.”

Baba also heaped praise on the wiser players in the squad for helping to show the younger players the ropes.

“I think the experienced boys are really helping us, even when the manager made a couple of subs which helped us,” he said.

“I think we’re gelling really well as a team and the experienced boys are talking to us constantly which for me in the middle is really helping me a lot and I’m trying to learn as much as I can from all of them to really push forward for the rest of the season.”

Macclesfield were then set to host recently relegated Hartlepool United as the Express went to print on Tuesday, and Baba felt the victory over Wrexham will have put them in good stead for that game.

“Well, I think after getting 90 minutes game time, going into the game the boys will be fresh,” he said.

“The win on Saturday is just a base going into the game on Tuesday, because whenever you get a good result it gives you that platform to build on and I’m really looking forward to the game on Tuesday now.”

Meanwhile, Macclesfield have been drawn against 1874 Northwich in the preliminary round of the Cheshire Senior Cup.

The game will take place at Northwich’s Barton Stadium in the week commencing October 30.

Macclesfield have had recent success in the competition, having previously won it back in 2015.

Ticket information for the match is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
