Your volunteer
Name: Maaria Cooper. Role: Cat rehoming co-ordinator. How did you enter this role?: After moving away from my home town in London, I started volunteer dog walking for a local charity and then happened to meet one of my best friends through our love of animals and social media (small world as we met through a third friend who happened to live 100 miles away).
She informed me of our local RSPCA and how I could get involved. I started fostering kittens and puppies for the branch. Then I became the communications officer and since last year became a trustee, taking on the re-homing role. What are you responsible for?: I help co-ordinate new cats and kittens into the branch from Greater Manchester Animal Hospital and help find them loving forever homes. What do you most enjoy about this role?: Being able to give animals a new chance in life in their forever homes, receiving regular updates from their adopters and meeting like-minded, caring animal lovers! What have been your highlights so far while doing this?: In the first six months of taking on the role, I helped find over 50 cats and kittens their forever homes. What is your favourite place in Macclesfield?: Tegg’s Nose - stunning views. Ideally how would you spend every day?: Fostering more animals, saving more animals and just cuddling more animals! If money was no object what would you do?: I’d help set up animal sanctuaries and hospitals around the world. What one piece of advice would you give?: Be kind, love unconditionally and forgive like our furry friends do. What was your first job?: I worked in retail my whole life and my first job was at Homebase. What is on your MP3 player?: Growing up in London my taste in music has always centred around R&B, jungle, garage and hip hop. What is your favourite TV show?: Friends. What are you reading at the moment?: 1984. Who is your biggest inspiration?: A lady called Candice Miller (@ roofusandkilo on Insta- gram) who was one of my biggest inspirations on becoming a fosterer and trying to save lives. Who would you like to invite to dinner?: James Franco - He seems like he’d be a lot of fun.
