Gateshead went close at the start of the second half when Burrow capitalise­d on a mistake by goalkeeper Billy O’Brien, but he could only shoot into the side netting.

Macc did all they could to try and pull a goal back, with Danny Whitaker leading from the front for his side as he tried to create chances.

It wasn’t to be though, and Gateshead put the match beyond doubt when they added their third goal on 72 minutes.

Preston was the man to get it, going through one on one with O’Brien and shooting past the goalkeeper to me it 3-0.

That’s how the match ended, with Macclesfie­ld brushed aside, leaving them 18th in the National League table after winning just one of their opening five games.

They’ll now try to get back to winning ways when they host Dover on Friday.
