Watson picking out the positives from loss

- VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE

Scott Wilson netted for the Silkmen after just two minutes, but goals from Moses Emmanuel and Tommy Wright in the final five minutes of the game saw Sutton come from behind and earn the win.

While it may have been a disappointing end to the match for Macclesfield, Watson was trying to remain upbeat about how he felt.

“There were a lot of plus points for us, we have to take as many positives as we can,” he said.

“Scott Wilson scored with his first touch of the game, doing what a lone striker has to do – gamble and he took it so early the goalkeeper couldn’t do anything about it.

“Sometimes you can say we scored too early! But we played when we could and we defended a hell of a lot of balls in the box we won’t play against that too often.

“One of the positives was obviously the goalkeeper, and Noe Baba has proved he can slot in at right back and do a good job too, he’s competitive and he’s a very fit lad.”

Watson was also happy that some of the players in the squad got their first starts of the season.

“There were first starts for Courtney (Richards) and Mitch (Hancox). I thought Gime Toure was a handful too,” he said.

“Although Gime’s fitness looked great we haven’t had him long and we need to try and drill him in the way that we want him to play, when to pull off and when to go towards the ball, but as a natural talent I think you can see he has got a hell of a lot to offer.”
