Transporting us through the ages

-

OUR nostalgia column brings you fascinating pictures taken in Macclesfield in days gone by. IN this week’s column, we are bringing you another selection of old photographs.

We have teamed up with Macclesfield Library and Cheshire Archives and Local Studies to share old photographs from the archives and will be featuring several different images each week.

Many of the pictures on this page continue last week’s transport theme, with horse-drawn transport, an early car and wartime train all featuring. Horses and carts were also used in the 1930s to take stallholders wares to and from the market.

A far more modern photo shows Sunderland Street in the 1990s.

Explore old books, maps and newspapers at Macclesfield Library, Jordangate, SK10 1EE or visit archives.cheshire. gov.uk.

We would love to hear your memories relating to any of the pictures we share. If you have additional information on the pictures featured today, please contact staff at the Cheshire Image Bank by visiting www. cheshireimagebank.org. uk and clicking on ‘Can you help?’
