Seb’s hopes curtailed in race collision

AFTER a change of teams for Macclesfield’s ace race driver Seb Perez a few weeks ago, he looks forward to this weekend for the latest rounds in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup as he heads for the “Home of British Motorsport” Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire.
The change happened after the shock suspension from the competition of his JHR Developments team.
He moved quickly to find a new home ahead of the last rounds of the series and switched to the reigning champions team of, Lincolnshirebased Rob Boston Racing.
Rising star Perez, joined by his teammate, George Gamble from Nottingham, went to Rockingham for three races over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Under the blazing weekend’s heat, Perez’s best qualifying time was removed for exceeding track limits, so Perez started from 10th on the grid for race one.
The super-fast banked turns of the oval circuit offered room for movement up the order and Perez duly delivered in the dash off the line.
In a stunning start, Perez moved from P10 to P4 and was eyeing up third when he was hit from behind and sent into the midfield and out of contention.
Perez would find it hard to make the Ginetta work in the heat of Sunday’s two races also and despite an impressive pace across both, couldn’t make inroads on his grid positions during the day.
Eleventh and ninth would be the result for the Macclesfield ace.
“It’s not quite come together this weekend really,” said Perez.
“I was really pleased with the opening charge on lap one of the first race which proves that I’ve got the pace to do that kind of thing but being punted off helps nobody.
“It ruins your weekend and you end up being on the back foot for races two and three.
“That said I`m learning all the time so we will take the positives to Silverstone and see what we can make of it from there.”
Perez who is ninth in the series with 216 points, hopes to keep the series challenge alive this weekend and at Brands Hatch in just over two weeks time for the season finale.
You can follow Seb live on Sunday on ITV 4 as a support race to the popular Dunlop British Touring Car Championship.
