Askey’s always on alert

-

MACCLESFIELD Town manager John Askey insists that he is constantly looking at new players to improve the squad.

The Silkmen made a signing last week after Danny Whitehead re-joined the club from League One side Wigan Athletic.

Askey is delighted to have the 23-yearold back at the Moss Rose, and hopes that others may follow if a right deal can be found.

“We’ve managed to get Danny from Wigan. It works in well because we know what Danny can do and hopefully he can do what he’s done for us before in this spell,” he told the club’s official website.

“There is a decent squad there and, obviously, there’s competition for places which is created through winning games. Long may that continue.

“We’re always on the lookout for better players and if we can improve on what we’ve already got, we will do.”

One player who was a summer signing for Macclesfield was Jared Hodgkiss, who is on the verge of returning to fitness.

Hodgkiss is yet to make his debut after spending the past couple of months recovering from an injury he picked up in pre-season, but Askey expects him to feature very soon.

Jared has been training and has been feeling good,” he said.

“It’s the only position we’re struggling in really. Noe (Baba) has done a fantastic job there but it isn’t his natural position.”

Hodgkiss has played football professionally for over a decade, with the 30-year-old having previous spells at West Brom, Aberdeen, Forest Green and Kidderminster.
