Get ‘fit and elfie’ in funds pledge

-

FANCY doing an Elf Run to have some fun and help East Cheshire Hospice?

It’s easy to organise and can take place in a school playground, office car park, hall, field or local park during the festive season.

The charity Active Cheshire is sponsoring the Elf Run for the first time, using the event to encourage us all to get ‘fit and elfie’ at the same time.

Organiser Lisa Ball, hospice community fundraiser, said: “Elf Run is a fantastic way for schools and other groups to celebrate the festive season while raising vital funds for East Cheshire Hospice.

“It’s simply a sponsored walk or run and you can set the date and distance. Children, teachers, friends and families can take part and have lots of fun.”

More than 5,000 people from schools, businesses and other groups took part last year, raising an impressive £47,000 for the hospice. Fallibroome Academy raised £3,700 and Ivy Bank Primary School £3,200.

Beavers, Cubs, Brownies, Rainbows, running and walking clubs are also urged to take part.

Lisa added: “Just get in touch with us and we’ll give you everything else you need. You’ll get Elf hats for all the children taking part, which they get to keep afterwards; Santa suits for the teachers to lead your ‘little helpers’ and envelopes to collect sponsorship money from friends and family.”

The hospice will also visit schools or groups to explain about the Elf Run and how their support will make a difference to patients this Christmas.

Adam Norris, senior partnership manager for Active Cheshire, said: “We’re delighted to sponsor the Elf Run as it is a fun demonstration of how people might embed physical activity into their everyday life.

“People like to help charities and East Cheshire Hospice is a wonderful cause. Hopefully, by taking part it might persuade people to do more physical activity over the longer term.”
