Club partners up with pub

- KAREN BRITTON

PUB landlords have teamed up with a cricket club for a partnership to help give the community clubhouse a bright future.

The committee at Langley Cricket Club have been running a fundraising campaign to raise £70,000 to extend and modernise the clubhouse.

They have won sponsorship, held events in the community and a ‘buy a brick’ campaign.

Now Matt Stevens, from the club, has announced a new twoyear partnership with a pub.

Landlords James and Jane Kennedy at pub and restaurant The Sutton Gamekeeper, in Sutton village, have sponsored a club clothing range and arranged a six-a-side fundraiser as part of the deal.

James Kennedy said: “When Matt approached me to become a partner of the cricket club we had no hesitation in accepting.

“My wife Jane and I have wanted to work with a community group since we opened The Sutton Gamekeeper and we saw the cricket club as having the potential to become a real community hub.

“With us becoming parents we also see the club becoming a real opportunity for families and the community to use it for varied activities.

“The plans for the clubhouse extension and modernisation are fabulous and we hope to be a major part of the cricket club’s exciting development plans for the future.”

The clubhouse was built in the 1970s and now, with more demand from children who want to join the club, the committee wanted to improve it.

The club has planning permission to extend the clubhouse and hopes to start in early 2018.

They are looking for new partnerships and companies to support this project and also the flourishing junior section, which requires coaching equipment and kit.

Matt said: “We have always strived to build partnerships with local businesses.

“When I met James it was clear he was impressed with what we are doing and excited with our future plans. Both James and his wife Jane have been very supportive of our fundraising for the new clubhouse extension.

“The new club clothing range sponsored by The Sutton Gamekeeper looks great and we hope this is the start of a long term relationship with a fantastic country pub.”
