Cash boost for charity thanks to public vote
A CHARITY which supports people with autism has become the Grosvenor Centre’s chosen charity thanks to a public vote.
Space4Austism, which supports families affected by autism, is the second charity to be chosen to benefit from the shopping centre’s 2017 charity fund.
Almost 200 people cast their vote on which charity should get backing from the shopping centre.
Ed Kennedy, centre manager, said he was delighted to present Space4Autism with £300 from its fund.
He said: “The people of Macclesfield really responded to our appeal in searching for a deserving charity.
“Space4Autism supports families of children and adults with autism through workshops, meetings, social clubs and more.
“It was great to see so many people tell us who they think deserved to be the second recipient of our 2017 Charity Fund scheme following on from East Cheshire Hospice earlier this year.
“After meeting with the team from Space4Autism, I know that this money will make such a difference and really help with the work that they do.”
Cheryl Simpson, Space4Autism CEO, said: “We couldn’t believe the amount of people voting for us and we were very humbled by all the comments.
“This donation will go towards equipment for our move into larger premises on Mill Lane in Macclesfield.
“Thank you so much to everyone who voted for us and your very kind words and thank you to the Grosvenor Centre for arranging such a fantastic appeal on Facebook.”
The Grosvenor Centre 2017 Charity Fund will be donating to three different worthy causes throughout the year.
In November a third charity will be announced after being selected by retailers in the centre. Space4Austim is a voluntary run charity which supports both children with autism and their parents through monthly parent/carer get togethers, educational workshops, family fun days, clubs for all ages, and talks.
There are also family yoga sessions, a football club, a monthly activity and social night and social clubs.
