Bollington bow out with club record

- TOM HORSFIELD

BOLLINGTON CC’s penultimate game of the season was rained off, ending their chance of promotion.

Their final game of the campaign saw them travel to Urmston with Bollington looking to make it 11 victories in a season, a feat never been achieved by the club in Division One.

Urmston asked Bollington to bat first, and started well, Harri Dickinson and James Longhorn adding 40 for the first wicket before Dickinson was caught in the cover for 22.

Longhorn was next to vacate for a patient 17, closely followed by Leese (5) and Barrass (1) to see the visitors struggling at 55-4. Ward and J. Dickinson added a handy partnership of 50 to take the score over the 100 mark.

After passing 100, both Ward (35) and Dickinson (25) lost their wickets seeing the visitors 6 wickets down with 20 overs remaining. Seale, Cross and Henshall could only add another 18 to the score before a tidy last wicket partnership between Hough (29) and Horsfield (28) added another 67 to the score to see Bollington setting the hosts 190 to win.

In reply, Urmston started well with the scores passing 50 for no loss after just the eighth over.

Soon after, Turner fell after a fabulous catch in the slips from Henshall, Bowled Horsfield (1-28).

A change in the bowling saw Jake Dickinson brought in to the attack, and from then on the game changed in Bollington’s favour. Dickinson took the next two wickets in partnership with Seale (2-76) who added more wickets to his seasons tally to leave the visitors in a strong position at 103-5.

Jake Dickinson continued to cause a series of problems for the hosts, as he ripped through the Urmston tail take to see him finish with six wickets, Harri Dickinson (1-8) with the final wicket to give Bollington their 11th victory of the season and sees them finish in a respectable fourth position as the season draws to a close.
